About Vashon

Vashon Island is the ancestral homeland of the sx̌ʷəbabs - known today as part of the Puyallup Tribe and is within the tribe's accustomed area for fishing and shellfish and remains a vital part of the tribe's cultural sovereignty.

Nestled in the “heart of the sound”, we are just a short ferry ride from neighboring urban Seattle and Tacoma. Our rural community is known for its commitment to justice, and its eclectic, home-grown feel that permeates our schools, restaurants, entertainment, recreation, and politics. From farmers markets to local opera, from e-bikes to circus arts, from stunning beaches to our funky local movie theater, Vashon is all about community, creativity, and collaboration. Connect with yourself.
Connect with each other.
Connect with nature.

We’re not your average nature education program. Here at Vashon Wilderness Program we mentor people of all ages to create meaningful relationships with what matters most – themselves, each other, and the natural world. In doing so, we’re making our corner of the planet a little more vital, a little more peaceful, and a whole lot more joyful!

Want to join us?

We’re always excited to welcome new folx to our community and share their passions and talents with us.

Most of our programs meet at Camp Sealth on Vashon Island – 400 beautiful acres of woodlands, wetlands and beaches to explore!  Others explore the diversity and beauty of our island woodlands and shores, as well as those of our local environs surrounding the Salish Sea. Thousands of songs, stories, games, fires, shelters, tracks, and more have been laid down on the fir trails, in the cedar groves, along the rocky shores, among the nettle and huckleberry, and across the grassy meadows.

This is an incredible opportunity to be part of our ongoing story, and to share your unique gifts and passions to help VWP connect more children and teens with nature.
