Beach Discoveries

While our morning began with drizzle and damp, the prospect of a day on the beach warmed the hearts of one and all! We began the day with games to warm us, skulls and bones to mystify us, and a tale chronicling the life of Mag, a drop of water. What were the many transformations of Mag? Where and how did Mag travel? Where might Mag be right now? Perhaps your family can observe a drop of water, and wonder about the many travels that drop might take!

After agreeing to some beach etiquette -- ways to interact with the life here that is respectful and safe to the creatures and their homes -- and a few safety agreements we headed out onto the shore! Here is some of the fun we discovered:

- a *huge* well-built shelter -- perfect for those who wanted to draw or gather for lunch and conversation

- beautiful stones and shells, dead crabs in whole and partial states, egg casings

- a student-led 10 second camouflage game initiated at random times. Yes, you can find ways to camouflage oneself on the Pt Robinson beach!

- other games on the beach, like Fire in the Forest

- music making with stones, driftwood, and our voices

- the disburbance and patterns of waves generated by a passing container ship

- a clay wall and all the imaginative fun that working with such clay inspires, including face painting the instructors!

... and much more! Ask your child what they enjoyed about the day, and notice what they discovered. On the beach, Nature always provides plenty of adventure and wonder!
